Teacher's Article: Keeping Card Advantage in Yu-Gi-Oh!
In Yu-Gi-Oh! even at the start of the TCG/OCG, it has been a numbers game. The ultimate goal is to drop your opponent's life points to zero. However, doing so is not always an easy task. Card advantage by definition, is having more cards or resources than your opponent. Having more cards/resources allows you to do two things:
1. It allows you to play through more cards with less worry. If your opponent only has X amount of cards, and you have X plus 3 more cards than them, you have more options, more versatility, and more plays because you have 3 more viable options than they do at this point.
2. It puts you in the driver seat if the game. More advantage equals more responses. More advantage means you control the game. Yu-Gi-Oh! is all about being in control. In this format control shifts between players can be quite frequent. Holding control is the difficult part of the game. With so many game changing cards, having the resources to be prepared, is always a thought to keep in mind.
Don't center your plays and your moves based on plays that will put you down in advantage. Simple example:
"Smashing Ground", is a "1 for 1" card. One card that takes another. Whereas if your opponent only had 1 monster and you used" Lightning Vortex" to destroy the one, you just used two cards for the expense of one. Now, this is only the example. Yu-Gi-oh! is a situational card game certain plays come at different times. But the whole point of this article is to explain to novice trainers to not create decks or plays that make you waste all your cards to make one giant synchro monster or one huge XYZ monster, because your opponent is going to have more advantage therefore, resulting in more options and if they have answers, you wasted all your advantage for nothing.
I will be posting articles every few days! Please, if there is anything you would like to cover, deck doctor, topics, help, or something you just want to hear about PM me!
